The Art of Concrete

The Art of Concrete

Exploring concrete as a luxury material.

In the studio, the work moves at the speed of the material. A pour must be finished in one motion; a green-turned bowl must be allowed weeks to decide what shape it will keep. We have learned to plan around this rather than against it, and the pieces are better for the patience.

What survives that process is character. A rim that reads slightly differently on each side. A seam of darker grain that no two vessels share. These are not tolerances to be engineered away — they are the reason the object is worth owning.

We design for the long middle of an object's life: the years after the newness wears off, when concrete has taken on the shadow of the tree above it and leather has softened into the shape of the person who sits there. That is where the beauty settles.
